Sport activities

Enjoy the outdoor in the enchanting landscapes of Umbria.

Cycling and motorbikes

There are many unpaved roads and mountain bike trails in Paciano and beyond.

Good quality bicycles can be hired at Cicli Valentini in nearby Castiglione del Lago. In addition to the trails in and near Paciano there’s a track for mountain bikes that goes a little more than halfway around Lake Trasimeno, starting from Castiglione del Lago and going around the top of the lake, with some beautiful views.

If you prefer touring by motorbike you might want to consider hiring an Italian classic, the Vespa. The Umbria in Vespa company based in San Savino on the eastern side of Lake Trasimeno has a fleet of bright yellow, two-seater Vespas for hire as well as another classic, the little three-wheeled Ape carts.

There are three golf courses within a 60 minute drive of Paciano.

Lamborghini Golf Club is only 5 miles away in Panicarola. Golf is available seven days a week in the summer. It is a nine-hole course, in good condition although the long grass in the rough makes finding lost balls difficult. The green fee is for all day and is very reasonable. You can hire golf clubs here. There is also a restaurant on site open through the week during lunch hours. The course is in the middle of the Lamborghini Estate, which also produces some well-known wines, especially reds. If you want to spice up your golfing you can stop for wine tasting in the cellars en route to the golf course. The famous Lamborghini cars and tractors were first built on this estate.

Perugia Golf Club, which is located about 20 miles from us just to the west of Perugia, has an 18-hole course.

Antognolla is an 18-hole course 20 minutes to the north of Perugia. It is the best course in the area and also has a very good restaurant open Wednesday to Sunday. The course is set in spectacular scenery overlooked by the medieval castle of Antognolla.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is available at the Natura & Cavallo Ranch in Paciano, with horses for riders of all skill levels.

The riding centre organises treks through the woods and along panoramic trails up on the hills, always accompanied by guides. Summertime specialities include moonlit and dawn excursions.

The owner, Tanya, speaks English though the website is only in German and Italian.

There’s a small but well-maintained tennis court in Paciano below the village, open every day through the summer. The court is well-lit at night if you prefer to play when it’s cooler. Our house manager can book it for you. There is a small hourly fee to pay.

If you want a change from the pool at Tartagli Bassi you might try the Azzurra Aquapark in Tavernelle, about 15 minutes drive from us.It’s great fun for children, with five pools to choose from, including a wading pool for very young children and a diving pool, as well as numerous twisting slides and an inflatable toboggan run. There is a large grassy area decked out with loungers and sun shades and an on-site snack bar. The aquapark is very popular with the locals.

It is also possible to swim in the Lake, which is warm during the summer. Around the shore the lake is quite shallow but it is deeper from the islands.

Windsurfing, canoeing and motor boats

Available from various centres around Lake Trasimeno, particularly Tuoro and Passignano and other points on the eastern side of the lake. At the Porto del Sole windsurf centre by Tuoro one can also hire canoes, sailboats and motorboats.

There is a cable wake board park on the north of the lake, just south of Tuoro. All equipment is provided.

On the premises you’ll also find a bar, restaurant, beach and sun deck. English-speaking instructors are available.

White water rafting, canyoning, etc

Available in the south of Umbria around the Marmore Falls near Terni, on the River Nera. These areas are more than two hours drive from Paciano.
